History this is a very fine original example of a german prussian infantry officer sword model 1889, it was based on the prussian cuirassier broadsword, but with a distinct pierced, semi-basked brass guard. Hilt is made from brass -gold plated, most gold plating has worn off. Guard is the rare folding type with the prussian imperial eagle crest kaiser wilheml ii. Grpi is bakelite with some of the twistwire loose. It has the prussian state royal cypher. Fuller (blade) double fullered, made from solingen steel, blade is straight and in a fantastic condition considering this swords age some 90 years old. Scabbard made from metal, with most of the original factory paint still present.
Length ovreall is 95. Cm ro 37 1/4 inches, with a 78. Cm or 30 3/4 inch blade. Condition overall this sword is in a good condition considering it's age, a must have sword if you collect swords or german militaria, and especially with the 100th anniversary of the start of ww1 1914 coming up in just 6 years from now. Please note that the leather finger loop inside the handle is still completely intact, which unusual in that they generally have succumbed to age and torn off.
