Wwi German Lozenge Camouflage Fabric ReproductionShortly after the reunification of germany in 1990, an inspetcion of the exhibits in former east german aviation collections revealed an appaling state of condition. Specifically, a couple of very rare halberstadt aircraft were found to eb needing a complete replacement of the original 5-color lozenge camouflage fabric originally applied in 1917. A firm called silberstreif gmbh.
Was commissioned to reproduce this material. Using the original dye formulae and a computer analysis of the existing fabric, silberstreif was able to reproduce an exceptionally accurate replacement, right down to the number of stitches per centimeter. I was able to obtain samples of both teh upper and lower 5-color fabric sheets from silberstreif and am making small amounts of this material available to the modeler and aviation historian. If you win this auction, you will receive two 8 1/2 x 10 paper sheets of the lozenge cmouflage pattern with an approximately 1 square inch piece of fabric from each of the 5 upper adn 5 lower surface colors attached. One sheet for teh upper surface colors, and one sheet for the lower surface colors, as shown in the third photo. The digaram shows the location of each color in the lozenge pattern. Use hte reproduction fabric color samples to check the accuracy of your existing decal sheets and paints, or simply come up with your own new formulations. The photos of the museum halberstadt cl. Iv used in this listing are simply to illustrate how the actual lozenge fabric was applied to the restored aircraft, and are not included in thsi auction. Please ask if you have any questions. See my other auctions and save big on combined shipping.
